Privacy Policy
How NAPWU collects, uses and protects the personal information you share with us through this website. Last updated: 1 November 2026.
Who we are
This website is operated by the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU), NAPWU House, John Meinert Street, Windhoek, Namibia. In this policy, "NAPWU", "we", "us" and "our" refer to the union. We respect your right to privacy, protected by Article 13 of the Namibian Constitution, and we handle your information with care.
Information we collect
We only collect information you choose to give us, and a small amount of technical information needed to run the website.
When you contact us. The contact form asks for your name, email address, a subject and your message.
When you apply for membership. The membership enrolment form asks for:
- Personal details: first name, surname, date of birth and gender
- Contact details: email address, cellphone and home telephone numbers, postal address and home region
- Employment details: employer, occupation, employment type, department or section, salary number or employee code, duty station, work region, employer address and work telephone numbers
- Your authorisation for membership fee deductions and your declarations
When you browse the site. Our web server records standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. This is used for security and to keep the site running, not to profile you.
How we use your information
- To answer your enquiries and provide the help you ask for
- To process your membership application and register you as a member
- To arrange the deduction of membership fees from your salary, as you authorise on the enrolment form
- To represent you in workplace grievances and disputes when you ask us to
- To keep you informed about union matters that affect you as a member
- To protect the website against spam, abuse and security threats
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We share your information only where needed for the purposes above:
- Your employer, limited to the details needed to set up and administer your membership fee deduction, as you authorise on the enrolment form
- NAPWU regional offices and officials who process your membership or handle your case
- The Office of the Labour Commissioner, courts or legal representatives, where needed to pursue a dispute on your behalf
- Service providers who host and maintain this website, under a duty to keep your information confidential
- Authorities, where we are required to do so by law
Cookies and browser storage
The website uses a small number of essential cookies to keep forms secure and working (a session cookie and a security token that protects forms against misuse). It also stores two preferences in your browser: whether you chose the dark theme, and which site announcement you have dismissed. These stay on your device and are not sent to us.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Third-party services
To display the site, your browser loads fonts from Google Fonts and icons from Cloudflare's cdnjs service. The contact page shows an embedded Google Map of our head office. These providers may receive your IP address and browser details when your browser connects to them, and they handle that information under their own privacy policies. Links to our social media pages, such as Facebook, take you to sites with their own privacy practices.
How long we keep it
We keep contact form messages for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. We keep membership records for as long as you are a member and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet our legal, financial and record-keeping obligations. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous.
How we protect it
The website uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and form submissions are stored on secured systems that only authorised NAPWU staff can access. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
Your rights
You may ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that is wrong or out of date
- Delete information we no longer need to keep
- Stop sending you union communications you do not want
To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may ask you to confirm your identity before acting on it.
Children
Membership is open to employed public workers. This website is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed. Please check back occasionally.
