Dispute Settlement
If you have a problem at work, NAPWU stands with you from the first complaint to a final resolution.
How It Works
01
Report the issue
Speak to your shop steward or contact your nearest NAPWU regional office as soon as the problem arises. Bring any letters, payslips or notices related to the matter.
02
Workplace grievance
The union helps you lodge a formal grievance with your employer and represents you in meetings under the workplace grievance procedure.
03
Conciliation
If the matter is not resolved internally, NAPWU can refer the dispute to the Office of the Labour Commissioner for conciliation.
04
Arbitration and beyond
Where conciliation fails, the union supports you through arbitration and, where necessary, further legal processes.
How NAPWU helps
The Legal & Grievances department provides representation, advice and support to members in workplace disputes, including:
- Unfair dismissal and disciplinary hearings
- Unpaid salaries, overtime and benefits
- Unfair labour practices and discrimination
- Disputes over policies and collective agreements
Before you contact us
Keep copies of your employment contract, recent payslips and any written communication about the dispute. Note the dates of important events. Labour disputes have time limits, so contact the union as early as possible.
